In 2004 a mineral supplement was formulated by K.C. Kelley, PhD for use in a rapidly growing yearling gelding. The gelding had developed severely contracted tendons in both front legs resulting in walking on both front fetlocks. His improvement in 8 weeks was unbelievable! He no longer walked on his front fetlocks and could even trot. The supplement was then offered to other horse owners for use in their young horses with leg issues. Horse owners referred to the supplement as "Leg Magic" when requesting additional product or referring friends. So "Leg Magic" was blended into the name, becoming "Equine Leg Magic, LLC" and was trade marked in 2005. The company has been manufacturing and marketing this mineral supplement since 2005.
Dr. Kelley attended the University of Florida, obtaining her Masters Degree in Agricultural Sciences in December 1967 and later her PhD in
June 1981. She specialized in Animal Reproductive Sciences. During her time at the University of Florida she was a part of several
prestigious societies. Kay went on to work at UF in Animal Research Studies, having an impact on animal issues today.
She also showed AHQA Performance Halter Mares and Geldings for years, and was a member of the Florida Palomino Breeders Association. Sadly, Dr. Kelley passed in 2021 after a 2 year struggle with Rapid Onset Dementia. To have known "Kay" was an experience! A no-nonsense person she had a very dry sense of humor, it sometimes took a moment to realize she was just kidding around. She loved her customers! And would at times talk for hours, educating them on ailments, what made this product work for their specific issue, or about the current state of the world.. where ever the conversation took them.
She is greatly missed.
